MANHATTAN ESTÁ EN NUEVA YORK
El bloguero David Pérez ha sido tan amable de dedicar una entrada de su blog sobre Nueva York a "Manhattan Pictures", el corto que dirigí hace ya cuatro años. Vistas con la distancia, hay muchas cosas que cambiaría si volviera a dirigir este cortometraje, pero desde luego la que no cambiaría es la ciudad en la que está ambientado.
Otros blogs que este año dedicaron algo de su tiempo a hablar sobre "Manhattan Pictures" fueron Ideas y Palomitas, La vida es corta y La cinematek de Joe Marlango.
Ya que el corto apenas ha podido moverse por salas y festivales, está bien ver que sigue vivo a través de internet.
MANHATTAN IS IN NEW YORK
Blogger David Pérez was so kind as to use a post in his New York related blog (in Spanish) to talk about "Manhattan Pictures", the short-film I directed in 2006. Watching it four years later, there are a lot of things I would change if I had to direct that short again, but one thing I'd never change is the city in which the story takes place.
Other blogs that spent some time this year to talk about "Manhattan Pictures" were Ideas y Palomitas, La vida es corta and La cinematek de Joe Marlango (all three of them in Spanish).
Having that the short couldn't have the opportunity to apply for film festivals or theatre screenings, it's nice to see it's still alive on the internet.

HABLANDO SOBRE MANGA
Ayer domingo TV3 emitió un nuevo episodio del programa de mini-reportajes TOT UN MÓN, en este caso dedicado a Jun Matsuura. En el programa aparecieron varias imágenes del documental "Creando Frau Tovarich", además de yo mismo haciendo un breve cameo para hablar sobre manga y storyboards. Después de ver el programa he llegado a la conclusión de que debería peinarme más amenudo.

TALKING ABOUT MANGA
Yesterday's episode of TV3's mini-report show TOT UN MÓN was devoted to artist Jun Matsuura. They used images of "Creando Frau Tovarich" to edit it, and also called me to do a brief cameo to talk about manga and storyboards. After watching the episode I came to the conclusion that I should comb my hair more often.

ENTREVISTA A JUN MATSUURA
Hoy ha aparecido en el diario Públic una entrevista a Jun Matsuura. Si entendéis catalán, podréis leer la entrevista picando sobre la imagen que se ve aquí abajo. En el artículo aparece mencionado brevemente también mi documental "Creando Frau Tovarich" y el enlace al tráiler que está colgado en Vimeo. Me alegra ver que, un año después de su publicación, el cómic de Jun sigue llamando la atención de los medios.
Por cierto que hace un par de días estuve con Jun en el XVI Salón del Manga, donde un equipo de TV3 nos grabó hablando sobre manga, anime y cine. Las imágenes estaban destinadas a un programa dedicado a Jun, que se emitirá el domingo que viene y en el que, quizás, haré un pequeña aparición estelar.
Seguiremos informando.
JUN MATSUURA INTERVIEW
An interview with artist Jun Matsuura has been published today in Catalan newspaper Públic. If you know Catalan, you can read it by clicking on the image below. The article mentions my documentary "Creando Frau Tovarich" and gives the link for the trailer in Vimeo. I'm glad to see that, a year after it went out, Jun's comic is still calling media attention.
By the way, a couple days ago I was at 16th Manga Con with Jun, where some people from TV network TV3 shot us chatting about manga, anime and movies. The footage is intended for a Jun Matsuura special that will air next Sunday, where I'll may be doing a star appearance.

TUTOR
Seguramente ya he comentado en entradas anteriores (y si no lo digo ahora, que es gratis) que soy profesor de Storyboard en la Escuela Joso de Cómics y Artes Gráficas desde hace más de cinco años, y que de vez en cuando imparto seminarios sobre el mismo tema y sobre Lenguaje Audiovisual en otros centros, como por ejemplo en los cursos de postgrado de Dirección Cinematográfica de la ESCAC.
Pues como parece que todavía me quedaba algo de tiempo libre, ahora también soy el tutor, profesor de Final Cut y de realizacióndel curso de Videoclip y Documental Musical de La Casa del Cine. Las clases empezaron ayer lunes, y a lo largo del año los alumnos dirigirán un videoclip cada uno y un documental.

TUTOR
As I'm sure I've told in previous posts (if not, I'll tell it now) that I've been giving Storyboard classes at Joso School of Comics and Graphic Arts for more than five years now, and sometimes I also give seminars about Storyboard or Audiovisual Narrative at some other places, like the postgraduate Film Direction course in ESCAC.
But it looks like I still had some free time, so now I'm also the course tutor (and Direction teacher, too) of the Music Video and Music Documentary course at cinema school La Casa Del Cine. Classes started yesterday and, all along the year, students will have the opportunity to direct a music video each and a documentary.

PRESUNTO TOCADOR
Esta mañana he visto que el último videoclip que he montado ya está en Youtube. Se trata de PRESUNTO TOCADOR, un videoclip de Àlam Raja para Le Croupier que cuenta con la colaboración de Shuarma. Conocí a Carles (alter ego de Le Croupier) hace un tiempo cuando trabajé en el rodaje de su primer videoclip, Virgina, canción dedicada a la escritora Virgina Woolf.
El vídeo tiene también una versión en catalán, aunque es básicamente igual en lo que a imágenes se refiere.
ALLEGED MOLESTER
Today I just found out the last music video I edited has been already uploaded to Youtube. PRESUNTO TOCADOR (ALLEGED MOLESTER), directed by Àlam Raja, is a song by Le Croupier featuring Spanish artist Shuarma. I met Carles (Le Croupier's alter ego) some time ago when I worked on his first music video, Virginia, a song about writer Virgina Woolf.
There's also a version of the video where the song is sung in Catalan, although images are pretty much the same.

LA PETACA DE SCALPED
Ayer recibí un paquete desde Estados Unidos, y cuál fue mi sorpresa al comprobar que el remitente era el mismísimo Jason Aaron. Desde entonces soy el orgulloso poseedor, no sólo de un montón de cómics altamente molones (Weapon X, Punisher Max, Ghost Rider, Astonishing Spiderman & Wolverine...) sino de de una petaca que lleva grabado el logo de SCALPED. ¡Sí amigos, la de la foto! Aunque mi tolerancia al alcohol rivalizaría con la de un niño de pecho, está claro que es mi deber rellenarla con whisky o algo parecido.
No veo el momento de quedar con los colegas y en medio de una conversación, con total naturalidad, sacar la petaca del bolsillo de mi chaqueta y echar un trago.
THE SCALPED HIP FLASK
Yesterday I received a parcel from the USA. To my surprise, the sender was no other than writer Jason Aaron. So now I'm the proud owner of, not only a bunch of the coolest comics out there (Weapon X, Punisher Max, Ghost Rider, Astonishing Spiderman & Wolverine...) but a hip flask with the SCALPED logo carved on it. Yes people, the one in the pic! Although my alcohol tolerance equals that of a newborn, I know I'm morally obliged to fill it with whiskey or something similar.
Next time I meet with friends, I'll be looking for an excuse to get it out of my pocket and take a swallow.

"HOLA MONTADOR"
Pues sí, ayer finalmente envié la lista de corte de negativo para LA HUÍDA, el corto dirigido por Víctor Carrey que he estado montando estas últimas semanas. Hace ya unos cuantos días que, revisando el material, me encontré este fotograma con el mensaje "Hola montador" escrito en la claqueta. También es verdad que a lo mejor el mensaje no iba dedicado a mí, sino a Martí Roca, el otro montador que estuvo involucrado en el corto antes de que yo entrara a trabajar en el proyecto.
"HELLO EDITOR"
So yesterday I finally sent the cut list for LA HUÍDA, the short directed by Víctor Carrey that I've been editing for some weeks now. Some days ago, when watching all the footage, I found this frame with the message "Hola montador" ("Hello editor" in Spanish) writen on the clapboard. Although... ok, yes, maybe the message was actually aimed to Martí Roca, the editor who was already editing the short when I got to work on it.

El año pasado participé en el Notodofilmfest, dentro de su sección de cortos de 30 segundos, con un corto llamado FIN. Hace unos días lo re-edité (por decirlo de alguna manera) y decidí subirlo a Vimeo.
